| BERCY CHEN STUDIO by Patricia Mora Bercy Chen Studio, a firm with design/build capabilities, creates jaw-dropping spaces that blur the distinction between architecture and art. To say their work is stellar is articulating the obvious. They merge commercial and residential materials and create “one-off” buildings that are both functionally fine-tuned and aesthetically gorgeous. A case in point is “The Quarry House.” It’s described on their website as a “deconstructed limestone cube with a rotated internal grid.” The house emits a thoroughly futuristic vibe while simultaneously harkening back to its Texas hill country setting. Architect Calvin Chen remarks that the goal of his firm, jointly owned with Thomas Bercy, is to “create portraits.” In other words, every design endeavor operates as a paean to their client. Thus, “The Quarry House” could have only come about with the aid of someone with impeccable taste who is willing to take risks and build a residence that’s meant to last a lifetime. |
