| Iconic artistic images will meet modern technology as Austin’s largest contemporary gallery welcomes the coolest interactive exhibit in town. “Cool Pop,” the Art of Jenny Meyer will be featured at ART on 5th as part of the First Thursday event, scheduled for Nov. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. Parking and admission to this special reception event are free, and gallery visitors will get the opportunity to meet the artist, dine on complimentary appetizers from Sushi Zushi, enjoy complimentary drinks from Deep Eddy Vodka and participate in a one-of-a-kind art experience. A unique show designed to pair art with technology, “Cool Pop” will be a solo show for Meyer at ART on 5th, and will feature a new collection of signature Jenny Meyer paintings — works inspired by iconic images of popular culture that have been caricaturized in a whimsical style — as well as a variety of unconventional pop art videos, time-lapse clips set to upbeat music that showcase Meyer’s artistic process. A massive flat-screen television will air Meyer’s pop art videos for gallery visitors to watch and listen in as part of the multi-sensory experience of Meyer’s art exhibit. “After getting a lot questions from customers about the creative process, I came up with the idea of videoing the paintings and then playing them back in high speed set to upbeat music.” Meyer says. “The videos give gallery visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the process. What is unique about this show is the viewer can listen to the music while watching the paintings being created, and then see the finished product on the wall right next to them. I think it’s a fun way to show art.” While “Cool Pop” will push the boundaries of the traditional art exhibit in a unique and modern manner, the show will also provide Meyer an opportunity to give back to her Central Texas community. Meyer plans to donate 20 percent of the proceeds gathered from sales during the month-long “Cool Pop” exhibit to the nonprofit Texas Wildfire Relief Fund. “I think this issue really hits home for everyone in Texas,” says Meyer, who organized the Texas Wildfire Relief booth at the Austin City Limits Music Festival this year. “We were able to raise over $35,000 at ACL. That’s a lot of money, but people still need our help.” |
