| TOPFER THEATRE AT ZACH TO OPEN SEPTEMBER 2012 New Theatre and Outdoor Spaces Will Define Iconic New Image for ZACH |
| operating theatre in Texas, will open its new, 420-seat Topfer Theatre in September 2012, nearly doubling its current capacity. Andersson-Wise Architects designed the building and surrounding outdoor spaces to define a dramatic, iconic image for ZACH within the context of the city, transforming the property into a performing arts campus that engages its site on Lady Bird Lake. Construction on the sustainably designed, 32,000 square foot structure and plaza, which will earn Silver LEED certification, started in February 2011. The tour will be lead by Andersson-Wise Architects and requires a hard hat (please bring your own). Space is limited, so rsvp early! | The Gardner-Betts Art Show and Silent Auction hosted by the Real Estate Council of Austin (RECA) features 51 pieces of original artwork by Travis County youth currently detained at the Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice facility. The artwork is a product of the art and music classes developed for the Travis County Juvenile Justice Center’s Leadership Academy, where juvenile offenders are incarcerated in lieu of sentencing at a Texas Youth Commission facility. The art and music program is entirely funded by the Real Estate Council of Austin through sponsorships for this event and the sale of artwork produced through the program, which is administered by the Austin Lyric Opera. WEST AUSTIN STUDIO TOUR 2012 Big Medium is excited to announce the first annual West Austin Studio Tour! Just like its beloved and long-running counterpart, the East Austin Studio Tour, WEST will be a free, self-guided tour that champions the abundance of talent of Austin’s large and wildly diverse creative community. The public is invited to discover new artistic talent, see working studios, learn about artists’ tools, processes, and inspirations, and support the arts community in our city by building their collections and supporting local businesses. For one weekend in May, artist studios, art galleries, and various spaces will open up their doors to the public for the West Austin Studio Tour. WEST will cover a wide geographical area, and just as non-homogenous as Austin itself, the broad range of work will reflect the eclectic breadth of artists working west of I35. Additionally, a number of spaces will be presenting various art and performance events on all ends of the artistic spectrum.
